Removal

Make sure the ignition switch is in the OFF position.

1. Remove the seat.

2. Unhook the rubber strap from rear side.

3. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

4. Disconnect the positive terminal from the battery.

5. Remove the battery taking care not to drop the terminal nuts.

Installation

Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

Always connect the positive terminal first. Make sure that bolts and nuts are tight.

Make sure the clock information is correct after the battery is reconnected. For proper handling of the battery, see "Maintenance Fundamentals." "Battery Goes Dead."

Removal

1. Insert the ignition key into the seat lock.

2. Turn the key clockwise, then pull the seat back and up.

Installation

1. Insert the front and rear prongs into the front and rear stays on the frame and the recess into the tab.

2. Push forward and down on the rear of the seat until it locks in place.

Make sure that the seat is locked securely in position by pulling it up lightly.

The seat locks automatically when closed.

Take care not to lock your key in the compartment under the seat.

Removal

1. Remove the seat.

2. Remove the bolt.

3. Remove the prongs from the grommets, then remove the left side cover backward by releasing the hooks.

Installation

Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

Service more frequently when riding in rain, at full throttle, or after the motorcycle is washed or overturned. Service if the deposit level can be seen in the transparent section of the drain tube.

Checking the Engine Oil 1. If the engine is cold, idle the engine for 3 to 5 minutes. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and wait for 2 to 3 minutes.
